Myspace Pages

I'm really happy about this trend of J-rock bands having Myspace pages. It makes it so much easier to check out their sound without having to go through the pain of downloading stuff you might never want to listen to again.

Here are some I'm checking out:

LUCY

I mentioned these guys a while ago as a band that captured my eye and at last they're releasing their first single. You can hear one of the tracks on their myspace site. Unfortunately it's good, better than average in fact, but not great. I guess I'd rank them with Dali, Maverick and hurts. Although I still think they have a great look. :)

On the other end of the spectrum is Obscure featuring the former 4ge and Lay of Fatima. I'm rather fond of Lay's work, so it's cool to see him in a new band. The sound is very post-rock. I'm not surprised by the presence of My Bloody Valentine/sigur ros/mogwai/m83/massive attack in their top friends. It's a sound I like when I'm in the mood for it and I'd love to catch them live. Nothing like blissing out of waves of distortion to de-stress you. :D (I wonder if they wear the bunny suits on stage.)

Myspace pages are also great for confirming suspicions about band's looks being better than their sound. See Black Ship who have a slick military looks and elaborate backstory, but sound like 80% of the crappy vk bands out there. Expected shelf life? 18 months.

On the upside apparently Ryo will respond to messages sent to 9goats' myspace.

Here's hoping the bands keep the pages coming!

Ah. all of it is true!
I am also glad that there is a Myspace Japan to make it a bit easier for them.

If only they would allow people to add the songs to their own profiles. :/
